Prosecutors in Albuquerque, New Mexico say five teenagers who crashed a house party were told to leave when they started taking photos with guns. In retaliation, police say the teens opened fire on the home from a car. Bullets traveled through the walls of the home, hitting 18-year-old Jada Gonzales and killing her. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber spoke with New Mexico criminal defense attorney John Day about the surprising punishment at least two of the teenagers will face.
Day says charges for this incident can vary.
“If you shoot at an occupied building or a dwelling. In other words, if you fire into a house, fire into an occupied office building, those could be felony charges as well,” Day said.
