The legal team for a former female sergeant in the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office feels she was unfairly demoted after she was caught having sex with a fellow deputy while he was on-duty.
Now she’s prepared to take her bosses to court.
A letter from Sheriff Robert Garcia to former Sgt. Deborah Anaya says an internal investigation found that she and Corporal Brian Nissen “had been engaging in sexual relations while on duty while they both were assigned to the graveyard shift.”
The letter said the sexual misconduct happened for months during 2014, often at Anaya’s home. The letter also says that many of the instances where Nissen and Anaya had sex happened when Nissen was on-duty and when Anaya was not.
